What is the RxOC?
A:
The Rx Ohio Collaborative is an innovative initiative designed to change the face of prescription drug health care throughout the state of Ohio.
Q: How did the RxOC form?
A:
The RxOC concept was formed in 2007 by an informal collaboration of some of Ohio's largest health benefit purchasers who collectively serve more than 400,000 Ohioans and anticipate a total savings of $300 million in drug costs by 2011 by participating in the RxOC.
Q: What is the purpose of the RxOC?
A: The fundamental mission of the RxOC is to improve value in prescription drug coverage and health care improvement programs to public sector employees, retirees and dependents.
Q: Who can join the RxOC?
A:
Currently any Ohio public sector employer, such as cities, counties, school districts, colleges or universities or state or government agencies, can join the RxOC as long as they are not covered by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
Q: Who is the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) for the RxOC?
A:
The RxOC has contracted with
Express Scripts Inc. to provide dedicated sales and marketing support and resources, to execute separate contracts and offer uniform RxOC prescription drug price discounts, and to implement service and provide an account management team. Express Scripts provides services to 55 million people through facilities in 13 states and Canada. With more than 11,000 employees, Express Scripts serves thousands of client groups, including managed-care organizations, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, employers and union-sponsored benefit plans.
Q: What other organizations are affiliated with the RxOC?
A:
Nearly a dozen organizations are affiliated with the RxOC, and as that number grows, the more cost-effective the plan becomes. Current members include the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, The Ohio State University, School Employees Retirement System of Ohio, State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, Ohio University, Wright State University and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Retirement System.
Q: Where is the RxOC housed?
A:
The RxOC is housed at The Ohio State University Health Plan Inc. Through OSU Health Plan, the RxOC will benefit from the expertise of a number of OSU experts, including the College of Pharmacy, and other state colleges to provide personalized pharmaceutical advice and support for maximizing the overall effectiveness of drug therapies for RxOC members and physicians.
